Food Suppliers: Creating a Successful Promotion

The dashboard makes it simpler than ever to deliver targeted promotions for buyers inside the FoodTender marketplace. Whether you’re interested in promoting brand new products or looking to liquidate certain items, promotions allow you to take full advantage of the marketplace and get noticed by more buyers.

Let’s walk through the steps of creating a custom promotion inside the dashboard.

Creating a New Promotion 

After logging in, you’ll see the “Promotions” tab on the left-hand side menu. Click “Promotions” to be prompted with a red button asking you to create a promotion.

Next, enter the title of your promotion in the top field, followed by the price you’ll want most prominently displayed. On the second line, enter a follow-up title, typically describing the promotion’s size.

Here, you can also write a description of the promotion and add an optional image.

Much like ads you see on social networks and other websites, a great image can make all the difference. The promotions tool does not force suppliers to include an attached image, but keep in mind that some estimates say images often account for upwards of 70% of an ad’s clicks.

Complete your ad by selecting the dates you’d prefer the promotion to run. Whether it’s a week, a month, or just a couple of days, the date range will determine how long FoodTender’s marketplace can see your promotion.

Next, the “Tender Information” section will determine what information is added to the tender sent to the interested customer.

Targeting Your Promotion

Finalize the ad by clicking the “Save” button in the bottom right corner, you’ll be prompted to either “Edit” or “Send” your promotion.

Click “Send” to officially launch the promotion and make it visible to the marketplace. You’ll be given a couple of different options for targeting.

Selecting Promotion Targets

1. To make the promotion visible to all potential buyers in the marketplace, simply check the box next to “Send This Promotion to all Food Establishments” and hit send.

2. The other option is to send the promotion to only a specific buyer (e.g. Bruce’s Bar & Grill) or a group if you’ve created one. In the image above, we’ve decided to send our carrot promotion to a group of loyal vegetable buyers we’ve created.

Simply type the name of the group or the name of the buyer in the displayed field. Once it’s locked in, hit send.

Now, your promotion is live! Simply click the “Promotions” tab on the left-hand side again and your open promotions will display. On the right, you’ll see an “edit” button allowing you to make changes to the promotion. You’ll also see how many users have clicked on your promotion’s ad.

Don’t be afraid to get inventive with your promotion’s title. Creative language can help your promotion stand out against the other promotions in the marketplace. Much like a great email subject line, it’s all about hooking your audience. Keep an eye on the number of clicks each ad is receiving, look for patterns, and adjust your ad copy as needed.

Restaurants: Find Unique Ingredients Easier Than Ever

Easier ways to find unique ingredients and niche food suppliers is a challenge many restaurateurs we spoke with at the recent 2014 CRFA Show would like to see addressed.

With the dashboard, there’s now a marketplace that lets food establishments quickly log in, create new orders in minutes, and source unique ingredients from a variety of local specialty providers.

Sporting a growing list of specialized food suppliers, is a terrific platform for accessing unique ingredients and local products. Whether it’s a specific type of heirloom vegetable, gluten and wheat-free ingredients, or other niche products, keeping your orders (and menu) in line with the most recent food trends has never been simpler.

Requesting Pricing 

1. Once you have created your account, which you can do here if you haven’t already, begin your first request by clicking the red “Request Pricing” button. You’ll be prompted to give your order a title (e.g. “Produce”) and begin filling in all of your needed items.

2. Be sure to specify the date by which you need the order completed in the “Tender due by” field. This lets the marketplace’s suppliers know how long they have to make their offers.

3. Next set all of your specifics. You’ll have the ability to specify any brand preferences you may have (or leave it blank), needed pack sizes, and quantity.

4. Click the pencil icon under “Notes” to write in specific notes for suppliers. When looking for unique/hard-to-find ingredients, be sure to leverage this option whenever possible. (e.g. “Must be locally-grown, and organic”)

5. Save your tender with the “Save” button.

6. You still have the option to edit the tender at this point. If you’re happy with it, hit “send” to make your order available to suppliers across the marketplace.
